  • Many large organisations use Buyer Relationship Management (SRM) software. It is increasingly a requirement of these companies that their buyers must provide an eCatalog that is able to connect to their purchasing software using the Ariba Buyer Network, SAP Open Catalogue Interface (OCI). SiteSphere offers buyers ready-to-go PunchOut integration with the SiteSphere Buyer® e-commerce solution, which enables buyers with a SiteSphere online store to connect the store directly to the buying software used by purchasing departments of large organisations. This allows buyers to access this large market sector, and so greatly increase their customer base.

    SAP Open Catalogue Interface (OCI) is a method of connecting a buyer's online store directly to the special purchasing software used by many large buying organisations. Buyers are able to punch out from the SAP purchasing software into a buyer's online store, and details of items selected are returned to the purchasing software in a purchase order. This has advantages to the buying organisation, in being able to control spending patterns and costs, and also limit purchases to approved buyers. It also has advantages for the buyer, in being able to get preferential access to large buying organisations, in addition to cutting error rates, reduce invoice queries and increase sales.

  • How PunchOut Works

    The process of purchasing using a buyer's SAP OCI enabled SiteSphere online store is as follows:

    1. The Customer puts in the Hook URL & login details into SAP SRM

    The customer's buying software is set up with the information necessary to contact and login to the buyer's online store, and to allow the online store to return data to SAP.

    2. The Customer opens a new Purchase Order in SAP

    The stage is set for items to be purchased from the buyer's SAP OCI enabled web store.

    3. The Customer punches out to the buyer's online store

    The SAP purchasing software calls up the buyer's online store through a web browser, and sends login details.

    4. The customer is logged in automatically to the SAP OCI enabled online store

    The customer is encouraged by the online shopping experience to purchase items for the organisation.

    5. The customer selects items for purchase, which are placed in the shopping basket

    The customer is logged in as a SAP OCI customer, and items are displayed in a special shopping basket page.

    6. When the customer has finished selecting items, they select the shopping basket page in order to check out

    The items selected are displayed, with a button to return the selected items to SAP.

    7. The customer clicks the Return to SAP button

    At this point details of the basket items are converted into hidden form fields in the final web page, which are then posted back to the customers purchasing software in the SAP Open Catalogue Interface format. Alternatively, the data may be returned in XML format.

    8. The SAP purchasing software receives the shopping basket information from the online store and places it in the customer's Purchase Order

    The customer continues the purchasing process, and more purchase orders are created.

    9. Purchase Orders held in SAP, when approved by the organisation, become orders sent to the buyer

    The buyer benefits from reduced order processing costs, a steady stream of orders from large purchasing organisations, much reduced order error rates, fewer invoice queries leading to faster payment.
